In the fantasy novel The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, Beorn is a shape-shifter who resides in Middle Earth as both man and Bear. His territory is characterised by a massive granite cliff-face called the Carrock. Carrock is a Tolkien-invented word that combines the Old English Carr (rock) with the modern English word Rock, literally translating as RockRock. It is thought that Tolkien was amusing himself with Carrock, as any good English scholar would do.
